At Gong Gam – 유니스 고(Eunice Ko)
My experience as an intern at Gong Gam was inspirational. As an American law student, I did not know much about Korean public interest law or the importance of public interest law in Korean society.
As Korea’s first public interest lawyers’ group, Gong Gam is the unofficial representative of a brighter, more hopeful Korea. While at Gong Gam, I was involved in researching pro bono activities and programs in the United States and the United Kingdom. Through its work, Gong Gam educates Korean society to recognize the importance of fundamental issues such as human rights and refugee status. I was privileged to work alongside experts of Korean Law. It was an honor to be a part of a group of lawyers and interns who hold public service as their highest duty to society.
Gong Gam is a spark that symbolizes a greater need and recognition for public interest law in Korea. I believe that Gong Gam will work tirelessly to ensure that the spark will continue to shine bright.
