A session to address a Basic Material concerning legislation an Alternative Family System


 


 On the 4th of Apr., lawyer SeoYon Jang of Gonggam attended an event upon publication of ¡®Basic Material concerning legislation of an Alternative Family System: discourse /approaches /examples¡¯, and delivered a presentation on ¡®Foreign legislative approaches on legal protection of co-habitation relationships and their implications¡¯.

 


 

 The Basic Material, a collaboration of research and results of ¡®a group formed to eradicate discrimination based on unconventional family systems and to ensure the right to form a family, contains the following: directions to change policies to ensure family rights studies on the meaning of a family; accounts of discriminatory experiences and suggestions on changes to the family system based on surveys collected from families, which had long been regarded as ¡®abnormal¡¯, such as single-person families, homosexual couples, and couples involving transgendered, individuals or between persons with disabilities or homosexuals; family-based discrimination found among Korean social policies, in particular, on issues of health insurance, rental housing, employment and basic living security and possible reforms; and a comparative study on legislation concerning co-habitation relationships in Germany and France, and overseas legislation on marriages between same-sex couples.

 


 

 In this session, suggestions were made for alternative family systems based on empirical examples of families which are not within the current legal classification of family, and presentations of policy researchers, activists and participants followed.
